Despite a morning drizzle, on Saturday, July 11 teams kicked off 18-holes of play for our community hospital at the Copley Country Club. Eight holes into play, the sky opened, and a light breeze provided a perfect ending to a great day of golf and a generous day for Copley Hospital. Seventy-two golfers registered for the 33rd Scramble for Copley Hospital.
“Saturday’s Scramble proved to be a success for both our community hospital and golfers,” said Copley CEO, Joe Woodin. “Thanks to the support of sponsors and enthusiastic golfers, the event raised $21,245.00. This outpouring of support to help Copley Hospital continue to care for all in our community is truly moving to see,” Woodin continued.
More than 30 local and regional businesses, and individuals participated in the Scramble through a variety of sponsorship packages and in-kind donations. “Sponsors play a key role in the tournament. We appreciate their support and extend sincere thanks for their part in ensuring the tournament is about our community,” said Woodin. “Community National Bank, our presenting sponsor, along with HUB International and NFP Property & Casualty Service, Inc., our platinum sponsors, and ImageFIRST, MVP Health Plan, Inc., and Union Bank, our gold sponsors, enabled us to promote the tournament early on. “Our twelve hole sponsors, and three bronze sponsors, plus our in-kind businesses and individuals who supported the event with prizes helped us attract a full field of golfers who shared in friendly competition while having a great day of play.”
During post-tournament play, Woodin acknowledged the tremendous help of Polly Manosh, who for the past sixteen years has been instrumental in organizing the event, stating, “Polly is a gem. Her spirit, tenacity, and dedication has led to yet another successful event for our community hospital. She continues to have Copley’s best interest at heart, and we truly appreciate that.”
As golfers finished their 18-holes of play, they enjoyed a box luncheon while cheering on teams receiving awards for their expert play. Those taking home prizes included:
1st Place with a net score of 51; a foursome from Bourne’s Energy:
Peter Bourne, Mike and Libby Bourne, and Jon Whittle
2nd Place with a net score of 56; a foursome of Copley staff and friend:
Andy Duff, RN, Geralyn Roscoe, RN, Patrick Heaghney, MD, and Mike Stengel
3rd Place with a net score of 56; a foursome from Manufacturing Solutions Inc.:
Tim Trombley, Keith Koehler, Josh Lanphear, and Bill Slocum
4th Place with a net score of 57: a foursome created by organizers:
Gregg Gordon, from MVP, Brenda Lazarovich of Stowe, and Thomas Whitney and Jay Corbett from Coca Cola.
The team recognized for best effort while having a great time was that of Jerrine Gangas, Reid Williams, Ed Stahl, and Pauline Lambert, all from Stowe.
