Registration is open for Copley Hospital’s 5K Run/Walk for the Heart. This annual event scheduled for September 30th kicks off Morrisville’s Rocktoberfest Street Festival Celebration. Online registration is available at www.copleyvt.org/runfortheheart, or by calling the hospital’s Community Relations office at 888-8302. The 5K starts at Oxbow Park and utilizes the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. Runners and walkers are issued chipped bibs providing an accurate timed race. Once 5K participants are off, members of Copley’s Cardiac Rehabilitation team will lead those interested in a 1-mile health walk around the Oxbow Park path.
Event day registration for walk-ins and those who pre-registered opens at 9:00am. Community National Bank, the presenting sponsor, will serve morning refreshments while infield games will be available for all. Prior to the 5K kick off, Copley’s President Art Mathisen will lead a warm up. Event planners encourage participants and visitors to enjoy the many festivities that Rocktoberfest offers following the 5K.
The goal of this family-friendly event is to promote healthy, active lifestyles. Heart disease is preventable and can be avoided by making healthy lifestyle choices. In Lamoille County, heart disease is one of the top leading causes of death for ages 25 and older. It is also one of the top causes for inpatient hospitalizations.
Form a team, join a team, or run/walk in honor of a loved one. Advance 5K registration for adults is $25, students (under 18) $15, and 1-mile health walk $10 (both include t-shirt). Kids 6 and under are free; t-shirt not included. Can’t join us? The “Virtual Race Kit” allows you to race on your own time and in the location of choice while still receiving a t-shirt and Copley Champion Certificate. Race day registration fees are slightly higher.
