Copley Hospital President & CEO Art Mathisen today announced the promotion of Vera Jones to Chief Operating Officer (COO). Jones has served as the hospital’s Vice President of Operations for the past 16 months. As COO, Jones is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital.
“Vera’s leadership and dedication to our patients, staff and community has been outstanding,” said Mathisen. “As her responsibilities expanded over the last year, she has essentially been performing the role of COO,” he continued. Mathisen noted that her contributions have earned her the respect of staff and her administration and her leadership skills have helped build relationships within our network of providers and community resources.
Jones’ history with Copley Hospital dates back to 2008 when she served as a consultant for special projects. She returned in 2015, dividing her time between Copley and Gifford Medical Center serving as Interim Vice President of Physician Practices. In June 2016, Jones joined Copley full-time as Vice President of Operations.
Jones has nearly 25 years of healthcare administration experience, specializing in physician practices, managing construction projects associated with physician acquisition, and strategic oversight. She has held executive roles with Central Vermont Medical Center and Gifford Medical Center. From 1990-2002 she served with Central Vermont Medical Center as Vice President of Physician Services and President of the Physician Practice Corporation and later as Vice President of Community Relations and Development. In 2007 she joined Gifford Medical Center where she served the next 9 years working collaboratively with the medical staff, nursing staff and administration specializing in patient relations and complaint management. Prior to her career in hospital administration, Jones served for 6 years as the Executive Director of the Vermont Board of Medical Practice in Montpelier, Vermont. Jones resides in Morrisville.
