Morrisville, VT…Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease. The good news is heart disease can be prevented. In recognition of National Heart Health Month (February), Copley Hospital’s Registered Dietitian Nancy Wagner is offering an evening discussion on “Eating for a Healthy Heart.” This February 23rd seminar will be held at 6:00pm in the Stevens Conference Room and is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about healthy fats, fiber and sodium. To register, call Copley Hospital’s Wellness Center at 888-8369.
While some risk factors such as family history, age and sex are factors that can’t be controlled, many others can. Incorporating good fats and fiber into your diet, and limiting the amount of sodium you eat are healthy choices. Factors that can put you at high risk for heart disease include unhealthy eating habits, being physically inactive, stress, over weight, smoking, alcohol consumption, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and having diabetes. Knowing what risk factors are preventable, and taking the steps to reduce these can mean the difference of life or death. A good starting point is participating in the “Eating for a Healthy Heart” seminar.
