Vermont Department of Health Honors Copley
Morrisville – Copley Hospital was recognized by the Vermont Department of Health for their commitment to supporting healthy worksites and healthy communities. Copley received a 3-4-50 certificate from the Health Department of Health for being proud partners of the wellness initiative.
3-4-50 signifies three (3) behaviors – lack of physical activity, poor diet, and tobacco use – that lead to four (4) chronic diseases – cancer, heart disease and stroke, type 2 diabetes, and lung disease – resulting in more than fifty (50) percent of all deaths. The 3-4-50 is a statewide effort to create an epiphany about the behaviors that lead to chronic disease in our state and to engage partners from all sectors in strategies to improve health across our state.
Copley Hospital shares the vision of reducing the burden of chronic disease and closing the gap in health inequities. Reducing chronic disease improves quality and length of life for all in our community.
Copley Hospital’s Wellness Team works with community members, employers, and staff to help each individual find a healthy balance in nutrition, physical activity, and stress management, including management of any chronic condition. From blood pressure and glucose screenings, to flu vaccine clinics, to healthy living workshops, to a diabetes support group, Copley Hospital’s Wellness Center provides a variety of health improvement services to help people of all ages personally manage their health. In addition, Copley is preparing to launch a Lamoille Valley Chapter of RiseVT to further engage the community in making healthy choices.
Valerie Valcour of the Vermont Department of Health said, “3-4-50 Vermont Partners like Copley Hospital help to create a healthy and thriving Vermont. Copley understands that choices people make are based on the choices they have available to them and that all deserve the opportunity to have good health, regardless of where they live, work, learn, and play. We are pleased to be working with Copley.”
