Copley Hospital is pleased to announce the promotion of Mariann Sjolander as interim Director of Diagnostic Imaging. “We are excited to announce the promotion of Mariann to the position. We feel the experience she brings as a technologist, the proficiency she demonstrates as a leader, along with her tenure at Copley make her a good fit for this central leadership role at the hospital,” states Copley’s Chief Operating Officer Vera Jones. Mariann has accepted this position on an interim basis for one year in order to gain the administrative and leadership experience needed for the position. Jones notes that, over the next several months, Sjolander will shadow with current Director, Lise Hamel to develop her administrative skills to gain a better understanding of how the department functions as a whole.
For the past ten years, in addition to serving as a Radiologist Technologist, Sjolander has held a number of lead positions including, Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) Administrator, and Lead Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist.
Mariann received her Masters of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration from Rivier University in Nashua, NH, in December 2017. Prior to that, in May 2011, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Sciences from Southern Vermont College.
Hamel, who has served as the department’s Director since 1975, describes the promotion as a win-win for Copley and a great opportunity for Sjolander. “Mariann is such a talented and skillful individual. She brings strong communication skills as well as detailed attentiveness to the position. In addition to her radiologic knowledge, her overall hospital knowledge is an added bonus. It brings me comfort knowing that Mariann will oversee the department.”
Sjolander is certified in various modalities of radiology including CT, Mammography, MRI and Radiography. In her previous roles as Lead CT Technologist and PACS Administrator, her responsibilities included training of staff, ensuring implementation of protocols, patient quality of care, as well as responsibility for accreditation through the American College of Radiology.
“As a radiologic technologist, I feel I have a good handle on the best and safest ways to use technology and examine patients. I feel this skill and knowledge has helped me grow and will prove to be a valuable asset in assuming my new position”, says Sjolander. Among other responsibilities, Sjolander will ensure the quality, patient satisfaction, and financial goals of the department are achieved. “I have enjoyed the hands-on experience with my patients over the years – the positive impact imaging has had on the lives of my patients. This new opportunity will allow me to continue patient care through more oversight. I look forward to working more closely with the Radiologists at Copley and other medical professionals to ensure the best possible care is provided to our patients. This is a great opportunity for me to grow while working in a place that I enjoy working at.”
Please join team Copley in congratulating Mariann on her promotion.
