Morrisville – Copley Hospital’s Echocardiography Laboratory has been accredited in Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). “The accreditation reflects the hospital’s commitment to excellence,” says Mel Patashnick, Copley Hospital President. “Accreditation reflects the skill of the providers, technologies and techniques, and the quality assurance measures in place for our echocardiograms.”
The review is rigorous and looks at every facet of the test process. The IAC evaluates the skill of the technicians, type of testing equipment used, knowledge of the interpreting physicians, and quality and detail of the records. The panel ensures that accredited facilities like Copley are providing quality patient care and comply with national standards.
Cardiovascular diseases are the no. 1 cause of death in the United States. On average, one American dies every 39 seconds of cardiovascular disease. Early detection of life threatening heart disorders and other diseases is possible through the use of echocardiography procedures.
The test uses ultrasound waves to create an image of the heart muscle. The waves can show the size, shape and movement of the heart’s valves and chambers as well as the flow of blood through the heart.
Copley is one of four hospitals in Vermont to achieve Echocardiography Laboratory accreditation; the other hospitals are North Country Hospital, Fletcher Allen Health Care and SouthwesternVermont Medical Center.
Copley Hospital cardiologist Adam Kunin, MD treats a full range of heart conditions and diseases, including heart attacks, heart failure and serious heart rhythm disturbances, as well as providing pre- and post-cardiac catheterization care.
