Copley 5K Run for the Heart Kicks Off Rocktoberfest October 3 One-Mile Health Walk, Family-Fun Events

Morrisville, VT…A group of volunteers, on behalf of Copley Hospital, is coordinating a family-friendly community-wide event that promotes healthy lifestyle decisions, specifically focusing on a healthy heart. Why?

  • In Lamoille County, heart disease is one of the top leading causes of death for ages 25+
  • Heart disease is one of the top causes for inpatient hospitalizations and is a prevalent chronic condition.
  • Heart disease is preventable and can be avoided with healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Almost all of us have been touched by someone with heart disease.

The Copley Run for the Heart kicks off Saturday, October 3 at Oxbow Park, leading off Morrisville’s Rocktoberfest. The Run for the Heart features a kids fun run and a one-mile Health Walk around Oxbow Park, and a 5K run/walk using the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. Music, games, and activities including a group warm-up, begin at 9:00am, with the Kids Run at 10:00am and the 5K starting at 10:30am, followed by the one-mile Health Walk. Following the race, head up to Portland Street for more festivities with Rocktoberfest. Online registration is open now at www.copleyvt.org/runfortheheart.

Form a team, join a team, or run/walk in honor of a loved one. Advance registration for adults and students (11-18) is $25 and includes a t-shirt. Kids (10 and under) can register in advance for $12 (with t-shirt) or $5 (no t-shirt). *Runners under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration the day of the race is $35 for Adults and Students. You also have the choice of a “Virtual Race Kit” where you can race on your own time and in the location of your choice and still receive a t-shirt and a Copley Champion Certificate.
Serving on the run planning committee are: Richard Craig, Holly Cooke, Kathy Demars, Tricia Follert, Steffany Mosley, Ron Ridlon, Beth Salvas, Treva Southworth, Jamey Ventura, Nancy Wagner, and Geanie Young. Community National Bank is participating as the lead sponsor along with Casella and Concept2. Thanks also to local businesses, including Olympia Sports, for donating gift certificates and prizes for the event.

Funds raised from the Copley Run for the Heart will go towards Copley Hospital’s heart programs, including Cardiology, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and healthy living classes with the Wellness program.
