Coding Specialist Cheryl Flood was honored by members of Copley Hospital’s leadership team with the “Team Hero” award. This monthly award recognizes an employee who demonstrates outstanding service and exemplifies Copley’s values of community, respect and compassion, service excellence, and life-long learning.
CEO Art Mathisen shared that Flood was nominated by Jill LaRock, Director of Rehabilitation Services for the support she provides the rehabilitation team with documentation of services. The rehabilitation staff describe Cheryl as efficient, understanding and one with great patience. Mathisen said the recognition as an example of good teamwork.
LaRock says that Cheryl brings a level of rehabilitation coding knowledge that has helped therapists with their documentation, stating “Cheryl makes herself available to meet with therapists, both one-on-one or as a group, to show them better ways of documenting.”
Cheryl has been at Copley for 17 years. She started in Health Information Management and shortly thereafter transferred into Coding. Her coding knowledge is primarily focused on rehabilitation, multi-specialty clinic and infusion/oncology services. “Coding is challenging with the many updates, revisions and deletions, as well as recognizing documentation needs. While challenging, I truly enjoy what I do,” says Flood. Cheryl is certified through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and is up-to-date on her certified education units (CEUs). Cheryl resides in Albany with her family.
