Despite the weather forecast, Saturday July 15th turned out to be a dry day for Copley’s annual golf outing held at the Stowe Country Club. Twenty teams of golfers took to the course for a day of scramble fun followed by a post tournament luncheon and awards ceremony. “Saturday’s tournament proved to be a wonderful golf outing for the field of golfers all for a great cause – our community hospital,” said Leah Hollenberger, Copley Hospital Vice President of Marketing, Community Relations and Development. Thanks to the support of sponsors and golfers, the event raised nearly $19,000.00 for Copley. “While Copley Hospital was the overall winner, everyone should consider themselves winners as their support helps our community hospital continue to deliver high quality care to those in need,” continued Hollenberger.
More than 30 local and regional businesses, as well as individuals, participated in the Copley Scramble through a variety of sponsorship packages and prizes. “Sponsors play a key role in the tournament and we extend sincere thanks for their part in ensuring the tournament is about our community. Presenting sponsor, ReArch Company along with NFP, Bourne’s Energy, Coca Cola, MVP Health Care, Union Bank and hole-in-one sponsor McMahon Chevrolet enabled us to promote the tournament early on,” said Hollenberger. In addition to the leading sponsors, hole and silver sponsors also helped provide for a friendly day of competition while supporting hospital technologies and services for those in need.
The scramble format provided for an even playing field for all teams. Those teams awarded prizes for their lowest net score were:
1st Place Team
Thomas Marhevko (Illinois), Ben and Renaye Novogroski (mother and son of Stowe), and Bert Peterson (Pennsylvania)
2nd Place Team
Chris Cappello (Boston), Lucie Garand (Montpelier), Sylvia Pope (Morrisville), and Susan Rogers (Morrisville)
3rd Place Team
David and Mary Jean Coddaire (Morrisville) and Jim and Patricia Mogan (Stowe)
4th Place Team:
Jeff Brynn, and Tom McNair, Paul Thabault and Derek Willand (all of Stowe)
5th Place Team:
NFP team: Chris Gautreau, Shannon Gaulin, Donna Mazat and Kevin Kerin
6th Place Team
ReArch team: Johnny Illick, Elizabeth Illick, Heather Illick, and Beth Seniw
While no one took home a hole-in-one prize, additional prizes were awarded for the longest drive and closest to the pin. Putting contest teammates from Bourne’s Energy, Jim Eisenhardt and Phil Rogers, split the winnings following a post-putt shoot out.
Hollenberger extends gratitude to the Stowe Country Club Pro Shop and Food and Beverage staff for their hospitality. “Working with such a well-organized team of professionals makes for a well-run event.”
