Copley is proud to be at the forefront of engaging and holding itself accountable to the community it serves. In the past, we have held public forums annually to share our performance, seek input and ask for direction in the planning of the hospital’s future. Copley is one of only two hospitals in Vermont that have published a report card on quality two years in a row prior to the state mandate. As part of sharing the performance of the hospital against state and national benchmarks, we have held five public forums each year across Copley’s service area to review the results of the hospital’s report card, share where we identified needed improvements and asked for input on what community members felt were important issues to address. In our quarterly newsletter, we continue to invite members of the community to call or schedule an appointment to speak with us directly about the hospital. Copley recently began publishing its approved budget for community inspection and comment. Copley makes an annual event out of engaging the community in the planning and development of its strategic plan and master facilities plan through community forums, speaking to local civic organizations and on-going requests for input in newsletters and advertising. Our main sources of information for the development of our strategic plan in 2001 and 2004 has been a community needs assessment done in collaboration with community partners and stakeholders.
We collaborate with other community groups such as: local schools and school nurses, People In Partnership (PIP), the United Way, Lamoille Valley Chamber of Commerce, Stowe Area Association, Hardwick Area Chamber of Commerce, Morristown Alliance for Commerce and Culture, Lamoille Long-Term Care Coalition, Copley Manor, Genesis Elder Care, Greensboro Nursing Home, Lamoille Valley Business Child Care Connection and many more who all help in the information gathering process that aids in the development of our strategic plan.
We are proud to have over 140 active volunteers who support the hospital with more than 19,000 hours of service annually. Volunteer service ranges from working the front desk to providing ice water to patients or assisting the quality management department in surveying patient satisfaction. This is just one way that we choose to connect with the local community. Our staff provide countless hours of volunteer service through active membership and participation in community organizations. At Copley, we not only encourage, but we actively seek participation at our annual meeting, community forums or in the governance of the hospital. In addition to volunteering, community members can participate in: · Community need assessments · Community focus groups · Report card forums · Annual meeting · Health & safety carnival · Strategic and master facility planning forums · Finance and budget forums · Trusteeship · or become a member of the corporation To become more active in these activities, please contact our Office of Planning and Community Information. |
