Your Respiratory Therapist may perform procedures that are both diagnostic and therapeutic. Among the respiratory tests we provide:
Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) Your blood’s acid-base balance as well as the oxygen and carbon dioxide contents are measured by collecting an arterial blood sample. Pulmonary function testing helps diagnose and measure the severity of such conditions as asthma or emphysema. Medication can be administered in aerosol form to ease breathing problems, and to help prevent respiratory infections. Monitoring equipment is used to assess your responses to therapy and treatment.
Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies Nerves use electrical impulses to control the muscles in your body. By measuring these impulses, we detect the presence, location, and extent of tissue damage caused by various diseases and conditions such as Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. Electroencephalography (EEG) Various conditions such as seizures, strokes, and internal bleeding can cause local problems and irregular brain functions. By monitoring and measuring the electrical activity of your brain’s surface (cortex), we detect slowed electrical waves, small and large wave and “irritable” sparks. These help diagnose your problem and indicate which treatment is advised. Electrocardiography (ECG) Your heartbeat is regulated by a complex series of electrical stimuli. By measuring the strength of these electrical signals from various locations on your body, we assess various aspects of cardiac function and heart disease.
